Ericsson's MINI-LINK helps Hydro-Québec expand its Broadband Network July 25, 2008
TORONTO, July 24 /CNW/ - Ericsson's MINI-LINK(TM), a microwave transmission product, will allow the government corporation to expand its network and to improve its high-performance broadband service, thereby upgrading the quality of its communication services.

Patrick Truong, Senior Telecommunications Director at Hydro-Québec, says: "We needed to extend and modernize our existing microwave-based communications systems to meet the new traffic demands. We feel that Ericsson's MINI-LINK meets the complexity, high reliability and fault tolerance our operations require. It also provides a platform for flexible, secure, scalable and cost effective wireless operations," he added.

Mark Henderson, President & CEO, Ericsson Canada, says: "MINI-LINK is well suited for situations where great distances and inhospitable climate make communications difficult, allowing companies to reduce cost and increase the level of service to their users. We are confident that, through our strong local presence and expertise we can help Hydro-Québec meet its future expansion and performance requirements."

Ericsson was identified as the supplier of choice after a rigorous selection process, testing and trial period. In addition to Ericsson's engineering excellence, the company has a Quebec-based Research & Development and Services Centre, which employs more than 1,500 people in Montreal. Ericsson is the world's leading provider of technology and services to telecom operators. The market leader in 2G and 3G mobile technologies, Ericsson supplies communications services and manages networks that serve more than 195 million subscribers. The company's portfolio comprises mobile and fixed network infrastructure, and broadband and multimedia solutions for operators, enterprises and developers. The Sony Ericsson joint venture provides consumers with feature-rich personal mobile devices.

Ericsson is advancing its vision of 'communication for all'through innovation, technology, and sustainable business solutions. Working in 175 countries, more than 70,000 employees generated revenue of USD 27.9 billion (SEK 188 billion) in 2007.
