| Dell Focuses on Phone, Online and Retail Business, Closes Kiosks in Canada |
July 25, 2008 |
TORONTO, Ontario, July 23, 2008 — Reflecting the evolution of Dell's Consumer business, the company today announced that it will close its 18 Dell Direct Stores (kiosks) in Canada effective July 29, 2008.
Dell is applying the advantages of its direct business model into retail where customers can experience and purchase laptop and desktop computers in more than 13,000 retail outlets worldwide, including Wal-Mart, STAPLES Business Depot, Best Buy and Future Shop in Canada.
"Customers, their expectations and their experience with Dell remain our priority and our move into retail is a prime example of Dell listening to its customers," said Phil Bryant, vice president and general manager, Americas Consumer Sales, Dell. "Since beginning our journey into retail, we wanted to give customers the opportunity to call, click, or visit Dell to have access to our award-winning products. This move fits with the evolution of our broad global retail strategy."
In addition to its global retail business, Dell is committed to its direct business, where a majority of customers choose to shop on the phone and via the Internet to buy laptops, desktops and associated products. Kiosks were closed in the U.S. earlier this year. Kiosks in Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and the UK are not affected by the changes the company is making in Canada today.
